Juliet Barclay joined Cubaism’s Havana office in November 2005, having worked for many years within the Office of the City Historian as Head of Design for the Directorate of Cultural Heritage. She still, from the Cubaism office, provides Dr Eusebio Leal, the City Historian of Havana, with help and support on specific projects. These currently include the second volume of Dr Leal’s important series Para No Olvidar and a major work being produced by the Oficina del Historiador in conjunction with UNESCO, which will present an international assessment of the restoration of the Historical Centre of the city of Havana.
Juliet Barclay’s articles on Cuban culture, the social and architectural history of Havana and the restoration of the city’s historical centre have appeared in publications all over the world. Her book Havana, portrait of a city has been reprinted four times since its original publication and may be obtained through Cubadirecto.com She currently has three further books on Cuba in production: Flowers of Cuba, Trees of Cuba (written by Dr Angela Leiva of the Jardin Botánico Nacional and edited by Juliet Barclay) and the children’s book Miri and the Magic Door, an adventure set in Old Havana, due to be published by Macmillan Caribbean in October 2006.
